Biography

Matthew M. Johnston, M.D., was born in Denver, Colorado. He lived in numerous countries including Haiti, Pakistan, Turkey, Switzerland and England before returning to America at the age of 18. Matthew attended Florida State University where he received his undergraduate degree in Physics and his Master of Science degree in Chemical Oceanography.

While working on a doctorate in Oceanography, Matthew was accepted to medical school, and attended the University of Florida. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Florida in Jacksonville. He found that Obstetrics and Gynecology offered a broad range of opportunities in surgery, endocrinology, infertility, and in caring for obstetrical patients. Matthew moved to Brunswick in 1989 to join Women’s Health Group in the practice of Obstetrics and Gynecology. His interests include sailing, chess, and athletics, particularly tennis.

Much of Matthew’s time is spent working with the church, particularly on missions in the Middle East. Through his mission work he has contributed to the building of four new churches in Turkey with the latest church being founded on the historical Mount Ararat. Matthew Johnston is a board certified OB/GYN and is a fellow with the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and is also a member of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. He has served as Chairman of the Department of OB/GYN at Southeast Georgia Regional Health System-Brunswick campus.
